SAUNA DAY

This programme gives visitors the chance to find out everything they ever wanted to now about smoke saunas: how they’re constructed; what wood is used to heat them and how they’re heated; and the important role they played in the lives of our forefathers. While the sauna is heating, the participants go on a hike through the forest, try their hand at woodwork and undertake other activities indoors, including making lunch together. The programme ends with a visit to the hot sauna, followed by a dip in the pond to cool off.

Everyone taking part is given a birch whisk to use in the sauna.

The aim of the programme is to invigorate mind and body alike in an authentic heritage culture setting. There are no lectures, but plenty of talk about everything we do together.
